U.S. House and Senate Reach Agreement on Comprehensive Legislation to Combat Opioid Crisis

Thank you for contacting your legislators!

On September 25, the U.S. House and Senate reached an agreement that permanently authorizes NPs to prescribe Medication-assisted Treatments (MATs) to help combat the opioid crisis, further expanding patient access to these critical treatments—prescribed and managed by NPs.

To address the urgent need for increased access to care for patients with opioid use disorders, AANP collaborated with the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Academy of PAs to provide the required 24 hours of education so that NPs can apply for the waiver to treat this patient population.
