Effective beginning on April 16, CMS has updated its local coverage determinations (LCD) for continuous glucose monitors (CGMs). These revisions for Medicare coverage of CGMs include removing the requirement that a patient receive three or more daily administrations of insulin or be on a continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion pump, removing the requirement that a beneficiary’s insulin treatment regimen require frequent adjustment by the beneficiary, and authorizing the required clinician visit prior to CGM coverage to be conducted via telehealth.
