Dr. Roseann Velez Named DE 2025 American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) State Award for Outstanding Contributions.

The Delaware Coalition of Nurse Practitioners (DCNP) congratulates Dr. Roseann Velez, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, FAANP, on being named the Delaware recipient of the 2025 American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) State Award for Outstanding Contributions. Dr. Velez was selected for this prestigious honor in recognition of her exceptional efforts to advance healthcare in Delaware through practice, education, advocacy, research, and leadership.

With over 25 years of NP experience, Dr. Velez has served in a number of impactful roles including Director of Bayhealth Advanced Practice Clinicians and Nurse Practitioner Coordinator for Bayhealth’s Population Health program. She currently practices as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Bayhealth’s Primary Care and Urgent Care clinics.  These contributions as an expert provider of NP care led to her being included as a 2024 Delaware Top Nurse candidate in the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse category.

Dr. Velez currently serves as the President of DCNP.  She played a pivotal role in organizing DCNP’s first state conference in Dover, where she shared her expertise on social drivers of health as critical factors in healthcare outcomes. She has provided testimony to the Delaware Legislature on bills of importance to NPs.  Her leadership is further informed by her past service as President of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland. Dr. Velez's educational background includes Doctor of Nursing Practice: Chatham University, Post-Master’s Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate: University of Maryland School of Nursing, Master of Arts in Nursing: New York University, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): Wagner College

A Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP), Dr. Velez is a renowned presenter, author, and editor for regional, national, and international audiences. She has contributed significantly to nursing education by teaching undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral nursing students. She currently serves as adjunct graduate faculty for the University of Delaware.  Additionally, she has served as a legal expert, providing consultations, depositions, and expert witness services. Dr. Velez is committed to mentoring future healthcare professionals and has precepted medical, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, physical therapy, and occupational therapy students.

Dr. Velez’s dedication and contributions clearly exemplify excellence in Nurse Practitioner practice. DCNP members are proud to have Dr. Velez represent Delaware as this year's winner of the 2025 American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) State Award for Outstanding Contributions.
